Japan in Autumn

This wall installation was commissioned by someone who wanted me to capture their Japan autumn travel in ceramic. The central pieces are handcrafted out of local Japanese clay, imitating the gentle ebb and flow of daily life weathered by seasonal disruptions.

Glazed in an overlap of a local crawl glaze and a sea blue-green gloss glaze, it tries to capture the essence of the island country whilst the autumn leaves coloured in varying shades surround them shining brightly, depicting the cheer and warmth one experiences when visiting the beautiful colourful country.

Japan is an emotion, and that is what this work tries to capture.
