Unfolding

Inspired by Japan's lush landscapes and it's enduring relationship with water, this sculptural piece reimagined a wave as a form in bloom. The opening silhouette evokes both the gentle unfurling of foliage and the rhythm of ocean swells, while the carved lines trace the quiet movement of wind and water across the surface. Small ginko leaves detailing the outer rim, serve as a subtle homage to the country's most resilient tree species and also it's natural beauty. The vivid blue interior reveals itself as one gets closer, an homage to Japan's island geography and invites viewers to look beyond the surface to discover moments of stillness, wonder and reflection.
